Keyboard tests

Check that every key works, find out how many keys your keyboard registers at once, and test how fast you can press.

Which keyboard test do you need?

  • A key does nothing, or types twice: use the keyboard tester. It lights up each key you press and warns about chatter.
  • You use a MacBook or Magic Keyboard: the Mac keyboard tester uses Mac labels and layout.
  • Keys drop out when you press several at once in games: the ghosting test shows how many keys your keyboard sends together.
  • You want to check the space bar or play a speed game: try the spacebar counter.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers to common questions about these tests.

How do I test if all my keyboard keys work?

Open the keyboard tester, pick your layout and press every key once. Keys that work turn green.

What is the difference between ghosting and rollover?

Rollover is how many keys a keyboard can send at the same time. Ghosting is when keys go missing, or wrong keys appear, because that limit is reached. The ghosting test shows both.
