Audio tests

Check your speakers and headphones channel by channel, find out how low they go, and play any tone you need.

Which audio test do you need?

  • Sound comes from the wrong side, or one side is quiet: use the speaker test or the headphone test.
  • You want to check a subwoofer or the bass of your speakers: the bass test plays low tones one by one.
  • You need a specific frequency, for tuning, testing or masking a sound: the tone generator plays any tone.
  • A MIDI keyboard or pad does not respond: the MIDI tester shows every message it sends.

Start at a low volume. Very low and very high tones can be hard to hear but still strain speakers and ears.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers to common questions about these tests.

How do I test left and right speakers?

Open the speaker test and press Left, then Right. Each side plays three short beeps. If they come from the wrong side, the cables or the system balance are swapped.

What frequency range can people hear?

About 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz for young people. The upper limit drops with age, so many adults hear up to around 15,000 Hz.
